A 73-year-old monk from Penang has become the latest millionaire under Bank Simpanan Nasional’s (BSN) Sijil Simpanan Premium (SSP) programme, taking home RM1 million and pledging to use the funds to support fellow monks and improve his temple.
Chan Chai Siang, who has dedicated the last three decades of his life to the monastic path, said he intends to carefully consider how best to utilise the prize money. Among his priorities are assisting monks facing medical challenges and gradually expanding the temple where he serves in Air Itam.
Speaking at BSN’s Penang main branch on Monday, Chan reflected on the value of money, saying its true worth lies in how it is used to benefit both oneself and others.
