Soon, commuting around Kuala Lumpur could get a whole lot easier.

Prasarana has confirmed that an open payment system for Rapid KL’s trains and buses is currently in the final award stage, meaning passengers may soon be able to tap in and out using credit cards, debit cards, mobile wallets, and QR payments instead of relying solely on Touch ‘n Go cards or tokens.

For years, Rapid KL’s rail network has operated on a closed-loop fare collection system built around Touch ‘n Go, which has been in use since 1999. While the system has remained reliable, it was developed long before newer cashless technologies like Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and contactless bank cards became common.
