RTM apologises again, and again, over blunders on air

PETALING JAYA:

Radio-TV Malaysia has apologised again for blunders over the names of the prime ministers of Singapore and Thailand.

The Singapore prime minister was named as Lee Hsien Loong, the former prime minister, instead of Lawrence Wong.

Similarly, the Thai prime minister was named as Srettha Thavisin, who stepped down a year ago, instead of Anutin Charnvirakul, who took office last month.

The errors were made by RTM’s commentators during the live broadcast of the opening ceremony of the Asean Summit meeting this morning.

The broadcasting department’s apologies for the blunders came in two separate statements this evening.

It followed an apology earlier today over a similar blunder in naming the Indonesian president as Joko Widodo, instead of his successor, Prabowo Subianto.
