PETALING JAYA:

A Sarawak assemblyman said the government’s decision to reduce the price of RON95 is of significance to the East Malaysian state due to the lack of reliable public transport.

The Borneo Post reported DAP’s Violet Yong as saying that many Sarawakians shuttled to work, school, healthcare facilities and ran daily errands with their own vehicles.

“Lower fuel costs therefore bring immediate relief to households facing long travel distances and higher transport expenses,” the Pending elected representative was quoted as saying.

Yong also described the decision to reduce the RON95 petrol price to RM1.99 per litre from Sept 30 onwards as timely since it came shortly after the government disbursed the one-off RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid.

“These back-to-back measures directly ease the cost of living and deserve full recognition.”
