As the pandemic rages on, much of our focus tends to be on the death toll and daily case numbers, and less on the plight of those left behind by loved ones.
As Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll rises, too many young children are learning the despair of losing their parents.
According to Harian Metro, the Ministry of Education (KPM) has confirmed that 1,517 students across the country have lost either one parent or both parents due to the Covid-19 virus. The figures were recorded between March last year until August.
“Although this number is considered small compared to five million students nationwide at this time, the welfare of Covid-19 victims’ children are taken seriously. KPM through the State Education Department (JPN), District Education Office (PPD) and the school management are always sensitive to the fate of students who have lost their parents,” it said.
