Three Vietnamese nationals, including a pair of siblings, have been sentenced to prison and fined a combined RM128.9 million for illegally possessing wildlife parts.

Sessions Court judge Maimoonah Aid imposed jail terms ranging from 15 months to 12 years on Bui Thi Ngan, 56, her brother Bui Van Noi, 48, and their friend Bui Van Anh, 38, after finding them guilty on Thursday, 19 February.

The court ordered all prison sentences to run concurrently from the date of their arrest. If the fines are not paid, the trio will face an additional eight years and six months in jail.

Authorities found nearly 1,000 animal parts in their possession, involving multiple protected species such as pangolins, sun bears, striped leopards, black leopards, clouded leopards, Asian elephants, hogs, wild boars,…
