Tony Fernandes Officially Steps Down As AirAsia X’s CEO
Tony Fernandes has just announced his retirement as the CEO of AirAsia X (AAX) Berhad only months after being reassigned the position of group CEO back in July of this year.
According to a filing made with Bursa Malaysia, Fernandes stated that his choice to resign came about due to “other commitments” he has to tend to.
AAX also announced that the executive chairman of Thai AirAsia X (Thai AAX), Tunku Mahmood Fawzy (pictured above), will be appointed as Thai AAX’ new independent non-executive director.
He will be responsible for both AAX and Thai AAX’s medium-term strategic direction and sustainable growth. According to Fernandes, his mission to revive AirAsia X with a plan for 20 aircraft carriers for the group (13 for AAX and 7 for Thai AAX) had been accomplished.
