
The top three Malaysian men’s doubles shuttlers have begun their campaign at the Hylo Open campaign in Germany on a positive note.
The three, who are incidentally the top three seeds in the German Championships, won their matches after some struggle against much lower-ranked opponents.
World No 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik battled past England’s Alex Green-Zach Russ 25-23, 21-14 in the opener.
They are expected to make it to the quarter-finals as they meet unheralded Czech Republic pair Jiri Kral-Ondrej Kral in the next round.
World No 4 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also had to stave off a great comeback by Scotland’s world No 63 duo Alexander Dunn-Adam Pringle.
They won 21-17, 22-20 in a match that lasted 40 minutes. Sze Fei-Izzuddin allowed a 16-10 cushion but fought hard to win in deuce.
