THE late morning sun hangs high above Emerald Bay, the heat pressing down on the skin, clinging to every surface. The water shimmers like scattered diamonds, while on the beach, racers and supporters congregate in loose, sun-drenched clusters, waiting for the last of the Chapman’s Challenge competitors to emerge from the sea and cross the finish line.
