It’s been a wicked year for Jon M. Chu!
Fresh off the glorious reviews for his recent project Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Chu is directing his focus on his current project — a Britney Spears biopic!
Spears, one of the most iconic pop stars of all time, will have a biopic made based on her memoir The Woman in Me, detailing her fame, motherhood, survival, and harrowing experience of being under conservatorship. Regarding the film, Chu said,
“We haven’t written the script yet, we haven’t hired a writer yet. But in this initial conception, I think it’s a lot about how we treat people, young people, stars that we think we own, women, mothers. There’s a lot of things in there that I would love to explore.”
The Britney Spears biopic was announced back in August, and Chu was announced as the film’s director. Marc Platt, who also worked with Chu as a producer on Wicked, will be joining him on this project as well.
