On January 4, 2021, China announced via its National Astronomical Observatories (NAO), that it would be opening up its Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) to scientists from abroad beginning April 1, 2021.
Nicknamed “Sky Eye”, FAST is the largest single-dish radio telescope in the world with a fixed 500m (640ft) diameter dish, and is now also the world’s only giant telescope following the collapse of the Arecibo telescope in Puerto Rico at the end of 2020.
