We’re Not Over George Clooney Struggling Through His Dramatic Reading of BTS’ “Dy-na-na-na-na-na-mite”

today4 March 2021

Background

George Clooney and BTS – two names you wouldn’t have thought to put together and yet, seem to work perfectly well!

As part of W magazines annual Best Performances Issue, George Clooney was highlighted as one of the cover stars for his role in ‘The Midnight Sky’. The issue is a celebration of “standout talents” who have “made the most of it in a nearly impossible year for movies.” On top of being a cover star, Clooney did a lyrical improve reading – a dramatic read of lyrics of a song, done without prior practice – of BTS’ first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit ‘Dynamite.’

Introducing himself as “Brad Pitt”, the 59-year-old actor launches into a straightfaced read of the song in the two minute, black and white clip. He does a pretty solid read – breaking character when he reads “morn'” as “mom” – even going as far as to read out the “Woo-hoo”, “huh” and “Hey” bits. He adds in his own quips, saying, “And we know who that is.” when the lyric about LeBron comes up.

But – without a doubt – the best part is Clooney’s reaction to turning the page and seeing,

“Dy-na-na-na-na-na-mite,”

Of course, being the veteran actor and professional that he is, he doesn’t let that stop him from completing his task in his signature baritone.

Speaking of the South Korean boy band, the group has recently announced their participation in the Recording Academy’s line-up of stars set to perform at  ‘Music on a Mission’, an upcoming virtual concert and fundraiser by the Grammys’ MusiCares Foundation. The lineup will also feature performances by Haim, H.E.R., Jhene Aiko and John Legend while archived footage of performances from the MusiCares vault by Usher, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks and the late Tom Petty will also be shown. At present, BTS is nominated for a Grammy in the best pop duo/group performance category for their first English song, ‘Dynamite’ from their 2020 album ‘BE’. The 63rd Grammy Awards will be held on March 15th March.
