Because really, do these men really need an introduction???
“Dynamite” blew up (pun…intended?) after its release in 2020. It was the band’s first full English song and it gained the K-pop “Princes of Pop” their first Grammy nomination at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards (‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’), making them the first South Korean pop act to be recognized by the Recording Academy. Now, they’re set to break even more records with their latest summer anthem, “Butter”! Sometimes smooth and charismatic from start to end, BTS showcases their musical fluidity in their ability to combine fun, witty lyrics with uplifting messages (“owe it all to my mother”) and their razor-sharp moves with well-timed instances of flirtatious behaviour ( running their hands through their hair and blowing kisses).
The dance-pop track is also a full English track, and sees the boys confess to wanting to steal hearts in a way that’s “smooth like butter.” The lyrics for “Butter” by BTS are:
Smooth like butter
Like a criminal undercover
Gon’ pop like trouble
Breakin’ into your heart like thatCool shade stunner
Yeah I owe it all to my mother
Hot like summer
Yeah I’m makin’ you sweat like thatBreak it down
Oh when I look in the mirror
I’ll melt your heart into 2
I got that superstar glow soDo the boogie like
Side step right left to my beat (heartbeat)
High like the moon rock with me baby
Know that I got that heatLet me show you ’cause talk is cheap
Side step right left to my beat (heartbeat)
Get it, let it roll
Smooth like butterPull you in like no other
Don’t need no Usher
To remind me you got it bad
Ain’t no otherThat can sweep you up like a robber
Straight up, I got ya
Makin’ you fall like that
Break it downOh when I look in the mirror
I’ll melt your heart into 2
I got that superstar glow so
Do the boogie likeSide step right left to my beat (heartbeat)
High like the moon rock with me baby
Know that I got that heat
Let me show you ’cause talk is cheapSide step right left to my beat (heartbeat)
Get it, let it roll
Get it, let it roll
Get it, let it rollNo ice on my wrist
I’m that n-ice guy
Got that right body and that right mind
Rollin’ up to party got the right vibeSmooth like butter
Hate us love us
Fresh boy pull up and we lay low
All the playas get to movin’ when the bass low
Got ARMY right behind us when we say soLet’s go
Side step right left to my beat (heartbeat)
High like the moon rock with me baby
Know that I got that heat
Let me show you ’cause talk is cheapSide step right left to my beat (heartbeat)
Get it, let it roll
Smooth like (butter)
Cool shade (stunner)
And you know we don’t stopHot like (summer)
Ain’t no (bummer)
You be like oh my god
We gon’ make you rock and you say (yeah)
We gon’ make you bounce and you say (yeah)Hotter?
Sweeter
Cooler?
Butter
Get it, let it roll
The group worked with Rob Grimaldi (he’s previously worked with Monsta X and Blackpink), Stephen Kirk, Ron Perry (Chairman & CEO of Columbia Records), Jenna Andrews (a Canadian singer, songwriter and record producer whose track “Tumblin’ Down” was featured on the television show, Grey’s Anatomy in 2010), Alex Bilowitz and Sebastian Garcia. Meanwhile, leader RM played an active part in the making of the track to ensure that the song stays true to BTS’ signature style.

And what is that signature style? Well, what makes BTS such an iconic group is the fact that the members – Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, Jungkook – have been honestly and earnestly addressing genuine stories of fear and hardships, of hope and consolation in their music and their activities. Aware that their every move can cause waves, the members actively use their platform to raise awareness.
