Drew Barrymore, who broke into the industry when she portrayed Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial as a child and captured hearts all over the world, announced that she will pause the premiere of her talk show after heavy criticism. The backlash was prompted by her prior decision to resume production despite more than 11,000 television and film writers still on strike.
“I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over,” said Barrymore on an Instagram post. “I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward. And I truly hope for a resolution for the entire industry very soon.”
The WGA has been on strike since May.
