The Billboard Music Awards, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, sees 1/3rd of the Jonas Brothers, Nick Jonas, take over from Kelly Clarkson as the host of the artist-centric celebration. Now, while other awards shows have their academy members vote on nominees, BBMAs “finalists” are determined by album and digital songs sales numbers, streaming counts, radio airplay, touring and social engagement. This year’s awards will be based on chart reports from March 21, 2020, to April 3, 2021.
Making history is the amazing P!nk. Alecia Beth Moore will be taking home the accolade for the 2021 Billboard Icon Award (previously been given to Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Cher, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez, amongst others).

At the same time, Champagne Papi Drake will take home the award for Artist of the Decade, having conquered the charts in the 2010s. Not only does he have the most number of Billboard Music Awards (27), he holds the record for most top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, the most charted songs of any artists ever on the Billboard Hot 100 and more. The only two previous winners of the Artist of the Decade trophy are Carey (1990s), and Eminem (2000s).
Leading the nominations for this year is The Weeknd with spots in 16 BBMA categories, followed by DaBaby with 11 nominations, Gabby Barrett with nine and Megan Thee Stallion, Bad Bunny and Chris Brown have received seven each. The late Pop Smoke has 10 nods while Juice WRLD has also garnered seven posthumous recognitions. Taylor Swift, who has four nominations, could tie Drake’s record for most BBMA wins if she wins in all four categories.
