‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Film Casts *This* Bridgerton Actor Opposite Chris Pine

today18 February 2021

Background

Fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons (DnD) has taken over the world, with millions of players worldwide creating their own stories, adventures, heroes and worlds. Now, transitioning from a game played at the tables of many, DnD is being turned into a film adaptation. As production for the film (like many movies) faced delays as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re slowly learning who will be involved in the thrilling project. The most recent addition to the cast is none other than ‘Bridgerton’ breakout star, Regé-Jean Page!

As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, the 31-year-old British-Zimbabwean actor has been confirmed for a lead role in the movie. Aside from his rakish role as the Duke Of Hastings, Page has also appeared in ‘Harry Potter‘  and ‘Mortal Engines’, on top of a more recent appearance as drummer Chico Sweetney in ‘Sylvie’s Love’ (alongside big names like Tessa Thompson, Eva Longoria, Aja Naomi King and Nnamdi Asomugha).

However, what direction the movie is planning to go in – a CGI-heavy fantasy film set in the DnD world or a Jumanji-type adventure heavy on storytelling? – remains to be seen.

What we do know, is that 2018 ‘Game Night’ action comedy film directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, are helming the movie, having written the script based on a draft by Michael Gilio.

As for his costars, Page will be joined by Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez (‘Girlfight’, ‘F&F’ franchise) and Justice Smith (‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’, ‘Detective Pikachu’).  It will be some time until we see the gang in action, however, with the film’s original release date of November 2021 postponed to May 27, 2022. Nevertheless, we may soon see the world brought to life through a live-action TV show as well. ‘John Wick’ writer Derek Kolstad is said to be working on separately developing a Dungeons & Dragons TV series.
