This ain’t it guys!!!

Ebit Lew has been on the move to various places, assisting the needy for as long as we can remember. At this point, if you were to mention ‘Ebit Lew’, your first question would probably be, “Who has he helped this time?” From the poor furbabies at Zoo Negara to a lady who’s been sleeping under a tree for 14 years, Ebit Lew has been going above and beyond in aiding those who need it.

Most recently, the kind-hearted Malaysian shared a personal moment. Ebit Lew posted a photo of himself with his daughter, in conjunction with the Raya festivities. According to his caption, it’s always others who take selfies or photos with him, but this time it was a moment for his daughter. It was a photo with a cute message:

“People always ask for selfies whenever I go anywhere. Here, Safiyyah Lew asked for a selfie. Happy Hari Raya my daughter. What’s your next mission, dad? You must be exhausted, no? Get some rest. Poor thing. Pray for me, my child. I’m doing all this just to show a bit of gratefulness to God.”

The thread continues with him showing appreciation to God and his love for his daughter. While many returned the entrepreneur’s Raya wishes, there were also a large number of ‘thirst’ comments that were – to be honest and straight to the point – v. disturbing. Not only do they refer to him as ‘ayah’ or ‘bapa’ (implying that they are his son-in-laws’ and therefore…yeah, exactly.), they claim that they can replace him in taking care of his daughter.

Netizens found these comments revolting. For one, because they’re implying that they (absolute strangers) have the right to any sort of relationship with his daughter and for another, as Ebit Lew’s daughter is only 12 years old.

And while multiple netizens called out the situation for what it is (pedophilic and downright inappropriate), there were some who tried to say that the comments were made in gest. This netizen, however, said it best: “where’s the humor?”

It got to the point that netizens had to warn others of such behaviour in the comments.

It’s nothing less than shocking that an innocent photograph of a father and his daughter could invite such reactions. This behaviour should be nothing less than frowned upon in our community. Let’s be better people for our country.
