Emily Blunt In Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’? Ain’t Happening

today12 May 2021

For months now fans have been hyped about seeing Emily Blunt and husband John Krasinski as Sue Storm and Dr Reed in Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot, but the star has decided to address — or rather, squash — the rumours once and for all.

While Scarlett Johansson is doing a fantastic job as ‘Black Widow’, the role initially went to Blunt, who turned it down. Since then, her name has been attached to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) especially when it was revealed that Krasinski was screen-tested for the role of Captain America, which ended up going to Chris Evans (who played Johnny Storm, Sue’s brother, in the original 2005 version).

After the critically-flopped ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot by Fox back in 2015, Marvel Studios acquired the rights for the film instead and rumours have been abundant that the real-life couple would be cast as one-half of the titular characters — with code names such as The Invisible Woman and Mr Fantastic.

During an appearance on ‘The Howard Stern Show’, Blunt expresses her disinterest in superhero films.

“That is fan-casting. No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’”  she revealed.

“It’s not that it’s beneath me. I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr.—it would’ve been amazing … but I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t. It’s been exhausted. We are inundated—it’s not only all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows as well.”

Maybe we won’t be seeing the happy couple in the MCU, but hey, not all is lost! You can still catch them in ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ later this year!
