Rejoice! The Weeknd has finally said goodbye to his face prosthetics gimmick. After arriving at the 2020 Video Music Awards with a bloody face and then attending the 2020 American Music Awards with a bandaged face, the world was… confused. Soon after, fans realized it was all part of his After Hours album promotion. When he released his “Save Your Tears” music video on Jan. 5, we finally saw that he was wearing prosthetics that looked like botched plastic surgery.

Now, he’s back as ‘’the normal’’ The Weeknd, that we all know and love for—in the new Super Bowl performance teaser video. Remember when we all celebrated after he was announced as the SuperBowl halftime show performer in November 2020? I mean, who else is watching the game just to see his performance? I know that I’m not alone in this. Watch the trailer below:

If you’re confused as to what having an injured face has to do with his album, well, it’s actually pretty simple. “‘Blinding Lights’ [is about] how you want to see someone at night, and you’re intoxicated, and you’re driving to this person and you’re just blinded by streetlights,” he said in an Esquire September cover story. “But nothing could stop you from trying to go see that person, because you’re so lonely. I don’t want to ever promote drunk driving, but that’s what the dark undertone is.”
UGH who else cannot wait to see him perform at the big stage????
