If you were asked to talk about “the most fearful situation she had ever been in”, what is the first thing that would come to mind? After all, fear is subjective. The situation that may come to mind for some may involve a phobia (i.e. heights, spiders, confined spaces) while for others, it may be a traumatic experience. But if you were to be the one asking the question, how likely are you to expect the answer:
“There was one time in Africa where I got kidnapped.”
And yet, that’s the exact answer that 40-year-old Australian actress Rebel Wilson gave host Ant Middleton when asked. Sure, the multitalented actress leads a life that is quite different from us everyday people – after all, she is a well-known actress, comedian, writer and producer who has starred in ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘Pitch Perfect’, ‘How To Be Single’ and more. Nevertheless, her answer came as a shock to even former Royal Marines Commando, Ant Middleton.

In the latest episode of his Straight Talking series, Wilson went on to describe the “petrifying” ordeal that occurred when she was travelling through East Africa. While she did not specify when exactly this event took place, she shared:
“It was in rural Mozambique. We were on this cattle truck and these men came on another truck [while armed]. [They pulled up beside us] with the guns and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’ve got to get off your truck’.
Wilson was with a group of women when this happened and – fearing for their lives – they made haste to obey the commands given to them. They were then taken to a ‘house in the middle of nowhere’ and held overnight. Wilson mentioned how she then had to take charge of the situation, keeping everyone calm and ensuring that they stayed together.
“They sat us down, and I said, ‘Everybody link arms,’ because I was petrified in the night that they might want to take one of the girls or something.”

Thankfully, Wilson and the group were allowed to leave the next morning – shaken but unharmed. To this day, Wilson says she has no idea why they were stopped and held captive, although she does have this interesting theory:
‘I think maybe those guys, maybe, used us to smuggle illegal things in the bottom of the truck,’
Well, while that makes one heck of a story, we’re glad Wilson and the rest of her travelling companions are okay!
