Despite starring in Friends for 10 seasons, Jennifer Aniston admitted that she just found out something about one of her co-stars of a decade…
“I didn’t understand the level of anxiety and self-torture [that] was put on Matthew Perry, if he didn’t get that laugh, and the devastation that he felt,” she told the TODAY show. But she went on to say that it “makes a lot of sense.”
The revelation came on during the reunion when Perry divulged that he would sweat and “go into convulsions” on the set of Friends if the studio audience didn’t laugh at the jokes he delivered as Chandler. As a character, Chandler was the go-to funny guy who never fails to deliver hilarious one-liners without even thinking about it — which seems to be a far cry from Perry who needs his comedic chops to work.
“To me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh,” he said. “And it’s not healthy, for sure.”

He also confessed,
“If I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get, I would freak out.”
Another fellow Friends alumna, Lisa Kudrow, seemed to be shocked by the revelation as well. She remarked,
“You didn’t tell us that then.”
Perry was suffering more than just anxiety while he was filming the hit-sitcom. The actor had a hard time in the past as he struggled with addictions and his appearance at the Friends reunion sparked concerns from fans when they noticed his “slurred speech”. However, this issue was cleared up when a source said that Perry had an emergency dental procedure the same day of the filming.
The 51-year-old actor also became a subject of controversy a month ago when he was exposed for matching with a 19-year-old girl on a dating application. More recently, he and his fiancée called off their engagement, causing fans to worry for his well-being.
