Nope, this ain’t it…
South Korean rapper Ravi has issued an apology to girl group Red Velvet after he was accused of referencing the group in an inappropriate manner.
Based on a statement released through his label GROOVL1N’s official Twitter, Ravi said that he is “reflecting on his complacency”. The VIXX member said that he “takes responsibility” for the controversy, personally apologizing to both the girl group and to their fans, while revealing his decision to take further action by removing the song from streaming services.

“I want to sincerely apologize to the members of Red Velvet who were mentioned in the lyrics and to the staff from SM Entertainment,” he wrote, as translated by Koreaboo. “I thought a lot about how I should take responsibility for this, and today, I personally called SM Entertainment to apologize to the Red Velvet members and the company.”

He continued to say:
“Shamefully, while working on this song, I did not realize that many people would find the lyrics uncomfortable,”
“This song was meant to express a sweet and bright energy, but since a specific group was mentioned, it is my responsibility to think about how the artist and their fans will feel as I write my lyrics,” Ravi said.
Ravi has clarified before in an interview with media that ‘Red Velvet’ was not in fact a reference to the girl group.
“The song ‘Red Velvet’ is about the cake red velvet. I wanted to express the sweet warmth using the topic of the red velvet cake,” he said, as translated by Allkpop, adding that he thought references to the group would “make (the song) fun”.
However, following the release, fans of Red Velvet demanded that Ravi came out with an apology as some lyrics have been labeled as “sexual harassment”.
The problem with Ravi isn’t him obviously mentioning RV then saying he didn’t know them, the problem is the sexual themes in the song alongside an actual girl group being mentioned in the song is what makes this so controversial.
