No tolerance for mischief this time.
Famous social media influencer Hafiz Mahamad was fined RM1,500 by authorities for failing to wear a mask in his interstate travel video posted earlier this week.
Putrajaya District Police Chief ACP, Mohd Fadzil Ali said that the compound for violating standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council was issued after the man appeared to testify at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) on 3 May.
Mohd Fadzil Ali also added that they found the video was uploaded by the individual at 9.15pm last Sunday and a check found that the location of the Raya scene was played in Bukit Rimau, Precinct 3.
“The video also involved a Proton Preve police vehicle as well as a Honda City belonging to the local man. The members involved in the scene were dressed in full uniform,” he stated.
Mohd Fadzil said that in the video, the individual involved did not wear a face mask apart from being seen mocking the reasons given for cross-state purposes.
According to him, the two policemen as well as an army member involved in the video are on duty in the SOP compliance team of the Putrajaya IPD Rehabilitation Movement Control Order.
“I have never allowed the video to be recorded or released and no payment or consolation has been received by the police in this regard,” he added.
Earlier this week, Twitter user @4rshrf shared a video that showcases an Instafamous personality attempting to cross the border. The tweet reads: “What idiotic content is hafizmahamad making, “Alasan Rentas Negeri” (Excuses To Cross The Border) those are all stupid excuses Instafamous like you use, you’re not gonna get fined for not wearing a mask in the video, are you?”

The video shows Hafiz Mahamad, a local influencer, being stopped by authorities as he attempts to cross the border.
As the police disallow him from continuing on his journey, he takes out paper signs from his car, each labelled with different excuses. Among them is “Urusan Kerja” (Work-related duties) and “Balik Pasang Langsir” (Going back to install curtains). Going into the last excuse, which is “Saya Instafamous” (I’m Instafamous), the authorities decided they’ve had enough and attempt to take him into custody. However, it’s the next part that leaves viewers completely lost.
Placed on the top of the boot compartment of the police car are plates with packets of instant noodles. Hafiz offers each of the policemen a plate and a drink. The video ends there, in a sort of cliffhanger…?
At the time of writing, the video shared on Twitter has amassed half a million views, with the original video posted on Hafiz’s Instagram going towards 700k views. Hafiz’s followers on Instagram, however, seemed to have enjoyed the content, sharing their amusement in the comment section. The top comment reads: “Going back to the second wife’s home?? Finding trouble”, referring to one of the excuses Hafiz used in the video.
On the flip side, on Twitter, netizens are condemning the video. This user said: “So cringe it’s like a 5 year old child made this video”

While the point of the video – meant as satire or, maybe, a sponsored video for the instant noodle brand? – remains a mystery, let’s remember not to imitate what was seen in the video. #KitaJagaKita and continue to adhere to the SOPs put in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
