Dreams do come true!

Basketball and rap have always had an association with each other. Basketball players want to rap and rappers want to shoot hoops. Grammy-winning artist J. Cole is the latest figure to connect those dots!

The rapper (whose full name is Jermaine Lamarr Cole) was into basketball since high school – where he was a standout player – and college and has had a lifelong dream of a professional basketball career.

His name was featured on the roster of 13 players released by the Patriots head coach Alan Major. Cole repped the number 15 jersey for Rwanda in the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

“J. Cole is a very good shooter. We picked him because He has a really high IQ for the game,” Patriots chief operations officer Haydee Ndayishimiye told AFP.

“He has a history of playing the game … We just thought that he is a great fit with the team and as we have seen in practice he is gelling well with the team. While they are practising with him, they are looking good out there. He really compliments the team,” she added.

During the game, Cole finished with three points, three rebounds and two assists in just under 18 minutes of action. Here are the full highlights of J. Cole’s debut:

However, Ndayishimiye said Cole’s contract was confidential, and he would only be with the team for the duration of the tournament. The BAL tournament will commence until May 30.

J. Cole’s basketball debut comes two days after the release of his sixth studio album, The Off-Season, an album dedicated to his love for the game. The cover art for the album depicts Cole in front of a burning basketball hoop while the tracks on the album include shoutouts to many NBA stars, including Ja Morant and Russell Westbrook.
