Coronavirus brought death knocking on Salma Hayek’s door.
The 54-year-old movie star revealed that she spent most of 2020 recovering from a near-fatal case of COVID-19 and it was a harrowing fight. Hayek, a married mother of 13-year-old Valentina, performed self-quarantine in a room in her house for about 7 weeks. At one point, she was put on oxygen.
“My doctor begged me to go to the hospital because it was so bad,” she told a media outlet in a Zoom interview. “I said, ‘No, thank you. I’d rather die at home.'”
The actress kept her diagnosis private, aside from posting a video montage of her battle against the virus on social media. The video shows her getting tested for the coronavirus several times.

Despite having recovered, the Mexican-born actress said that she still suffers from COVID-19 side effects and still hasn’t fully regained her energy since the diagnosis. But due to her dedication for her profession, Hayek recently returned to work to film the movie ‘House of Gucci’, which is inspired by a true story.
Hayek plays Pina Auriemma, a clairvoyant friend of Patrizia Reggiani who is portrayed by hit-maker Lady Gaga. Reggiani is dubbed the Black Widow and served 18 years in an Italian prison for having orchestrated the 1995 murder of her own husband (who is an heir to the Gucci fashion empire) Maurizio Gucci, portrayed by Adam Driver of ‘Star Wars’ fame.

The film is set to drop this fall. But in the meantime, you can catch Hayek in the movie ‘The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ which is coming pretty soon on June 16. Oh and also, Hayek will also be featured in Marvel’s highly-anticipated film ‘Eternals’ set to premiere in November!
