After taking a step back away from her role in the ‘Thor’ franchise, Natalie Portman was confirmed to be reprising her role as Dr Jane Foster in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’. Now, the difference between Phase One and Phase Two Jane Foster (Portman did not appear in Phase Three) with Phase Four is that Portman’s character will be the one to wield the hammer Mjolnir and take over from the now-unworthy Prince of Asgard. It has already been established that the upcoming movie will be based on the key plotlines from the ‘Mighty Thor’ comics by Jason Aaron, which sees Foster battling cancer while taking over for the God of Thunder.

Now, when actors and actresses are cast for roles like those of superheroes, they often go through push through torturous training sessions and go through physical changes to reflect their comic book counterparts. Chris Hemsworth, who has played the role of Thor since 2011, hadn’t even really lifted weights till he took up the part. However, after all these years as the God, he’s progressively seen more gains. A recent post of his, in which he’s clad in a sleeveless tank while lifting a HUGE tyre, went viral. Not only because the massive tyre looks to weight a tonne, but because of the size of and muscle on his arms.

Seeing this, Portman – who had already been confirmed for the role of Mighty Thor by then – was asked what she thought of her costars picture when on Jimmy Kimmel Live. At the time, she had joked:
“He’s looking good. It’s a lot of pressure. I’m gonna look like his little grandma next to him.”
However, recently leaked onset photos show that she definitely doesn’t look ANYTHING like a “little grandma” – unless grandma Foster has been hitting the gym 5 days a week. Take a look at her impressive flex!
How impressive is that?! The 39-year-old actress has had previous experience with training for roles, having had to train for five to eight hours daily for six months in preparation for her award-winning role in the 2010 movie ‘Black Swan’.
What exactly is in store for Portman’s character remains to be seen. ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ will be picking up where ‘Avengers: End Game’ left off, with Valkrie sitting on the throne to Asgard (which has been relocated to a village in Norway known as Tønsberg) and Thor… well… doing Thor things. If the film really does stick to the ‘Mighty Thor’ storyline, we will see Foster struggle with her newfound ability to wield Mjolnir and her illness, as every time she uses her powers, she will be flushing out the much-needed treatment that she is getting for her cancer. What we do know is that we’ll be seeing Christian Bale take up the role of the villain in the movie, one that has yet to make an appearance in the MCU until now. We’ll just have to see how the story plays out when the movie hits theatres on May 6th 2022.
