Supermodel Liu Wen Joins Barbie Town!

today1 April 2021

Background

Born in Hunan, China, Liu Wen was also the first East-Asian model to walk the prestigious runways of Victoria’s Secret fashion shows. And get this — she has also strutted down many, many runways in New York, Paris, and Milan, making her China’s highest-paid supermodel!

Dubbed by The New York Times as ‘China’s first bona fide supermodel’, Liu Wen was hailed to join the 2021 Barbie Shero Collection

The gorgeous doll, making an entrance right in time for International Women’s Day, is modelled after Liu Wen’s mesmerizing seafoam green gown by American designer Zac Posen. It is the same dress she wore back in 2014 when she graced the red carpet at the Met Gala.

Liu Wen took to Instagram to share her appreciation for becoming a part of Barbie’s Shero Collection.

In her caption, she shares:

“No matter what roles I take on, I will always remain one of millions of women around the globe. On this International Women’s Day, I am honored to become part of @Barbie’s “Shero” line. Thank you to @zacposen for lending the unforgettable look from 2014, and a special thank you to my personal Sheroes, who always remind me to stay true to myself and keep giving love to the world. Most importantly, remember that you are always your own Shero! ???”

The Shero Collection, aiming to empower past and present female role models to inspire young girls, also features many other extraordinary women from all walks of life. Amongst them are Madison de Rozario — an Australian Paralympic athlete, Sara Gama — a soccer player, and our very own Dato’ Nicol David and Farah Abdul Hadi — World Squash Champion and artistic gymnast, respectively.

“As a brand that inspires the limitless potential in girls, Barbie will be honouring its largest line up of role models timed to International Women’s Day, because we know that you can’t be what you can’t see,” said Lisa McKnight, SVP and GM of Barbie.

Launched in 1959, Barbie has been a prominent doll brand for generations, fueling the imaginations of young girls all around the globe. With this magnitude of power, we hope that Barbie will continue representing exceptional women across various races and professions to inspire young girls.
