The world wasn’t ready for that apparently.
Anthony Hopkins of “The Father” won Best Actor at the recent 93rd Academy Awards, receiving the accolade over the late Chadwick Boseman, much to the outrage of fans on social media.

The veteran actor however, was not present at the ceremony (held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and Union Station in downtown Los Angeles) to accept the award. Hopkins, aside from winning the award, also made history this year as the oldest Best Actor nominee in the history of the Academy Awards. The film also was nominated for Best Picture and his co-star, Olivia Colman, was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
“The Father” is a movie that talks about dementia. A topic that most people would regard as “difficult”. Hopkins plays a man trying to piece his life together. It’s written and directed by Florian Zeller and is based on his play called “Le Père.”

Amidst Hopkins’ win, netizens felt rather betrayed, not holding back their harsh feelings, dissatisfied with the result.
Yeah the “let’s put Best Actor last so, obviously, we can celebrate the life of Chadwick Boseman” really backfired

As Chadwick is no longer with us, this user emphasized how he will never win an Academy Award now.

Boseman, who passed away at the age of 43 last August after a four year, hard-fought battle with colon cancer was nominated for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a movie centering a contentious recording session in 1927.
Despite Chadwick not receiving any award, netizens still praised him as the greatest actor to ever be on screen.
Awards or no awards Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman are two of the greatest actors to have ever graced the screen.? pic.twitter.com/UPk29JAIne

While it may seem that the public is unhappy with Chadwick not winning the award, we shouldn’t take the glory away from Anthony Hopkins, no?
