Nine years after their debut in 2012, EXO remains one of the biggest K-Pop groups in the South Korean entertainment industry. And in celebration of their 9-year milestone, the group announced that they would be releasing a new album later this year!

Accompanying the announcement is an almost 4-minute video titled “L-1485 SPOILER”, where the members reveal quite a bit about the upcoming music video for the album.
Filmed on the set of the upcoming music video, the members show off describe their location as being on a “cool set”, “an aircraft carrier in outer space.” The upcoming music video is said to continue where the members’ 2017 hit, ‘Power’ left off. The 2017 CGI heavy, video game-esque video featured the members fighting off “the Red Force machine” (their opponent) to get their superpowers – officially assigned to them early in their careers – back. Main vocalist D.O. explains:
“The story is, in ‘Power’, we all went our separate ways. But we are now back together,”
Kai continues,
“For the first time in a while, all the members came together to film a music video. I’m so happy that I get to show even a little bit of it like this,”
D.O. goes on to tease the choreo from the first verse of the group dance, with – rather excitingly – a muffled snippet of the song playing in the background. Baekhyun comments:
“This much of spoilers is fine for EXO. I hope you all stay very excited for EXO’s album,”

EXO’s upcoming return is a follow-up to their sixth 10-track studio album, ‘Obsession’, which dropped in 2019. The album was without Lay (who was in China for his solo promotions) as well as D.O. and Xiumin, who were in the midst of their mandatory military services. The upcoming album will also only see five of the nine members promoting it, as leader Suho, main rapper Chanyeol, main vocalist Chen have now enlisted and Lay continues to work on his solo career outside South Korea. Lay’s last album with the group was 2016’s ‘Ex’Act’, although he did participate in the Chinese version of their song “Tempo” in 2018. Recently, both members Baekhyun and Chanyeol released gorgeous solo tracks, ‘Bambi’ and ‘Tomorrow‘ respectively.

The now nine-member group, consisting of members Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai and Sehun, are known for their trilingual proficiency (being able to sing in Korean, Chinese and Japanese) and musical stylings that veer towards hip-hop, R&B, and even elements of electronic dance music genres such as house and trap.
