Watch: The Powerful & Stunning Music Video For Faouzia & John Legend’s ‘Minefields’

today30 January 2021

While this may not be the John Legend collab we were hoping for (when will we get the JL x BLACKPINK, Chrissy Teigen???), it’s the one we didn’t know we needed. Hold on to something – anything, really – as you’re about to be blown away/ moved to tears/ hit in the feels/ have your jaw drop because of how STUNNING the music video for new artist Faouzia’s track with John Legend is. On Thursday (Friday Malaysian time), the singers released the music video for their duet and everything about will leave you speechless.

The three and a half minute cinematic masterpiece features still waters, dreamy sunsets and wide-open spaces as the duo sing:

“Ooh-ooh, these minefields that I walk through,
Ooh-ooh, what I risk to be close to you.
Ooh-ooh, these minefields keeping me from you,
Ooh-ooh, what I risk to be close to you,”

The video cannot contain both the vastness of the fields that they’re seen in and the power of their voices, as the song reverberates through your heart. Between shots of both Faouzia and Legend playing the piano and Faouzia’s beauty as she hits some seriously crazy big notes, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen.

Plus – a little tidbit here – it seems as if another famous musician is credited in making of the song: ‘One Call Away’ hitmaker Charlie Puth! Puth is credited as a writer as well as the piano and keys contributor for the song.

Faouzia, the 20-year-old Morroco-born Canadian beauty, told Broadway World that the song was meant to highlight the power of love, sharing:

“‘Minefields’ examines what we, as humans, are willing to do to reunite with a loved one – whoever it may be. It poses the question, during times of desperation or despair, what risks are we willing to take, driven by the power of love? This is especially poignant during these trying times.”

As for what it was like to work with EGOT holder John Legend, Faouzia gushed that it was ‘an absolute dream come true’ having him work on the song with her. “Minefields” is the follow-up to Faouzia’s  2020 debut EP, ‘Stripped’.
