American singer Vince Staples took to Twitter recently to hold a quick poll about the NBA Playoffs. Things took a drastic turn however when the singer was accused of enabling racist behaviour for a certain group of people.
The drama started when music and entertainment website DDot Omen shared a video showing a group of Asian American Crip members. The racist behaviour in question was when one of the men in the video could be heard describing his crew as “the real Black n*****”, a statement that triggered DDot to call Vince Staples to answer.
DDot quoted Vince Staples’ poll:

‘Crips’ are a street gang based in Los Angeles that are involved in various illegal activities, the most infamous act being drug dealing, theft, extortion, and murder. The group is majorly African American and traditionally associates themselves with the colour blue.
Vince Staples, who spent a lot of his teenage years hanging out with them, was understandably confused with the accusations from DDot and claimed that he wasn’t familiar with anyone in the video and therefore shouldn’t be held responsible for what they say.
“I don’t know nobody in this video but if you got a problem I can take you over there right now and you can speak yo mind,” he replied. “I don’t know what’s more egregious, cuh thinking all Crips know each others and get along or cuh thinking Long Beach is near Sacramento.”

However, DDot later claimed that he was being ‘sarcastic’.

The exchange was prolonged, but Staples had cheeky comebacks of his own following accusations that the American singer was too scared to call out non-Black Crip members comfortable with using the n-word.
