Baby Yoda is one of THE. BEST. things to come out of Disney+’s ‘Star Wars’ series (fight me on this) but, as it turns out, we haven’t really been referring to the little green cutie the right way for over a year now.
In the episode titled ‘The Jedi’, it is revealed that Baby Yoda has his own name. Now, if you didn’t like that Baby Yoda has been “officially” referred to as ‘The Child’, you may not like that he has an “official” ‘official’ name. On the latest episode of season two of ‘The Mandalorian’, Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) casually drops the lil’ green guys name and it’s…
Grogu.

As if to confirm that that is indeed his name, ‘Grogu’ makes a chirping sound when referred to as such by the character Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal). And if you’re wondering how it is meant to be pronounced, it sounds like:
‘Grow-goo’
Not only that, the episode dives deep into the ‘darker’ side of the adorable character. Entertainment Weekly chronicles Baby Yoda’s (I’m sorry, ‘Grogu’ is just not as cute) the backstory in the episode as well, stating:
“The Child used to live on Coruscant and was trained by “many masters” at the Jedi Temple, then was hidden when the Empire came to power. Ahsoka Tano explained that Grogu’s memory then became ‘dark’ and he was alone. She ultimately declines to train Grogu because there’s anger in him after years of hiding his abilities in exile. Tano suggests that Mando take Grogu to the planet Tython where there’s a Jedi Temple. She said to place Grogu on a seeing stone on top of the mountain and ‘there’s a chance a Jedi might come searching for him,’ while noting there are not many left.”
Does this mean we may have to say goodbye to Baby Yoda?!
