Marvel is conquering the next few years with their grand Phase 4 plans, and it includes giving another one of their beloved comic characters a chance to come to life — Moon Knight.

Set to be released on Disney+ like its predecessors WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the upcoming Loki, Moon Knight will debut in 2022, starring the one and only Oscar Isaac! Now, over the past couple of months, fans have been blessed with videos of Isaac training for the upcoming series, giving them a little tease as to what they can expect for the action sequences.

And now, fans are treated with another tease with a photo of the hunky actor in front of a backdrop full of Moon Knight posters.

The caption said,

“WE ARE MOONKNIGHT @marvelstudios #moonknight”

Isaac plays a former U.S. Marine with dissociative identity disorder (DID), previously known as multiple personality disorder. Being saved by the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu, Marc Spector is revived after his employer betrays him, and is forced to face his many demons and mental illness while juggling his four separate identities.

This mini-series will reportedly have six episodes, each with a runtime between 40 to 50 minutes. Marvel’s godfather Kevin Feige compares the series to the Indiana Jones franchise and said that Spector’s mental illness is a “unique aspect” of the series.

It seems like Marvel has become increasingly bold with their portrayals of mental illness, as previously depicted by Wanda Maximoff in WandaVision and Bucky Barnes in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The latter also works with a therapist who is determined to save his life, further normalising seeking psychological help.

It’s important for a franchise with an influence as big as Marvel to demolish the stigma surrounding mental illness and show that even the most superpowered beings have their struggles with mental health too.
