Not Ready To Let Go Of ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’? Neither Is Josh Duhamel!

today5 June 2021

Background

Netflix has axed Jupiter’s Legacy, cancelling the superhero series effectively despite the cliffhanger at the end of its last episode.

The 48-year-old star, who played the family patriarch Sheldon Sampson, took to Instagram to reflect on his situation, while poking fun at Netflix by mentioning its competitor, Hulu.

He wrote a cheeky caption that said,

“When you get dumped by @netflix and have to put yourself back out there…. #sexysantasummer

What’s up, @hulu ?”

Duhamel shared a shirtless selfie with the gray long hair and beard that he sported as the superhero called The Utopian in the project based on the graphic novels by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely.

The cancellation of the show, which portrays a dysfunctional superhero family dynamic, was announced on June 2, less than a month after Netflix launched the eight-episode first season on May 7.  Leslie Bibb, who played his wife Grace Sampson, also took to Instagram to bid farewell to the series.

“this union is something i believed in and i will miss wholeheartedly…love you friends…” she wrote.

Perhaps the star with the most heartfelt Instagram caption goes to Andrew Horton, who portrayed their burdened son Brandon Sampson, who was caught between justice and his so-called selfish decision to prioritise his own family above everyone else.

“I’m gutted,” Horton wrote.

“Jupiter’s Legacy was a once in a lifetime experience and one I will never forget. I’m sad and sorry that we don’t get to continue this journey. I feel as though we had barely scratched the surface with this one, but as the inimitable Jim Carey once said ‘that’s the way the cookie crumbles’”.

He added,

“A huge thank you to every single person involved in this titan of a project; we should be incredibly proud of what we created, regardless of the outcome.”

Speaking of dysfunctional superhero family dynamics, at least we still have The Umbrella Academy season 3 to look forward to!
