Korean dramas have been a fan fave even for international viewers, thanks to all the handsome Oppa’s and a combination of pandemic-induced boredom. While we are familiar with the latest shows such as Itaewon Class, many are unaware that these Korean dramas were actually adapted from popular webtoons.
Much like how the MCU films are based on their original comics, K-dramas also fall into that category for some of their drama-filled shows. In South Korea, WEBTOONS is a publishing portal launched by the popular search engine, Naver, but webtoons come up on different platforms, as well. So here it is, 7 K-Dramas that you didn’t know were based on Webtoons!
1. Love Alarm (2019)
Based on the Daum webtoon of the same name by Chon Kye-young, it follows the life of a high school girl in a society greatly influenced by a mobile app that is capable of notifying whether someone within their vicinity has romantic feelings for them.
2. Lucky Romance (2016)
A 2016 South Korean television series based on the webtoon of the same name published in 2014 on Naver, starring Hwang Jung-eum and Ryu Jun-yeol.
3. Her Private Life (2019)

The show is based on a Korean novel called Noona Fan Dot Com written by Kim Sung-yeon and published in 2007.
4. Extraordinary You (2019)
Starring Kim Hye-yoon, Rowoon, Lee Jae-wook, Lee Na-eun, Jung Gun-joo, Kim Young-dae and Lee Tae-ri. It is based on the webtoon July Found by Chance which was first published in January 2018 on Daum Webtoon.
5. My ID Is Gangnam Beauty (2018)
Starring Im Soo-hyang, Cha Eun-woo, Jo Woo-ri and Kwak Dong-yeon. Based on the webtoon of the same name published in 2016 by Naver WEBTOON, it centers on the life of a college student who went under cosmetic surgery to evade derision from her bullies, yet her decision seems to backfire as her peers ridicule her artificial look.
6. Rugal (2020)
A police officer loses everything he holds dear when he attempts to bring down a nationwide criminal organization. Based on the webtoon of the same name.
7. Hell Is Other People (2019)
Based on the Naver WEBTOON webtoon series of the same name by Kim Yong-ki, follows the story of a young man who moves into a cheap apartment and must share the kitchen and bathroom with weird and suspicious residents.
