Alright fellas, in case you’ve been living under the rock: Anugerah Juara Lagu—or AJL—is Malaysia’s annual music competition created specifically to honour the work of all musicians, composers, lyricists and music producers. This year, amid the global pandemic happening around the world, Malaysia’s music industry is going forward with the ceremony with a stringent Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)—as issued by MKN.
The 35th edition of AJL, last Sunday, took place at the Shah Alam City Council Auditorium (MBSA), without the presence of spectators, or fans. So basically, yeah, an empty arena. Anyway, here’s everything you should know about AJL35:

What about the judging format?
The judging aspect is based on the quality of the song including melody and lyrics. However, vocals and performance are also taken into account as added value and bonuses scoring. The judging is done based on a line of professional jurors who are experienced and respected in Malaysia’s music industry.

Who are the guest performers?
Similar to the previous season, a few ‘’guest performers’’ — mainly newcomers — were the opening acts for the show. This time, Ella, Yonnyboii and Naim Daniel will be taking part in the curtain opener segment. Meanwhile, the interlude performance using the theme ‘Project Band’, lined up by singers Hujan, Akim & The Magistrate, and Hazama & The Penglipur Lara, all expected ‘’wow’’ the fans at home with the ‘mashup medley’ of some of the country’s famous female singer records; Ziana Zain’s, Misha Omar’s and Dayang Nurfaizah’s.

Popular singer Kaka Azraff, together with rappers Noki and Loca B, came out tops at last night’s Anugerah Juara Lagu 35 (AJL35), garnering the top prize for the song Gila. The song is composed and written by Noki, Loca B and Ezra Kong. The artistes took home RM50,000 and trophies.
AJL35 first runner-up was Aina Abdul with Semalam, who wrote and composed the moving song.
Wany Hasrita and Datuk Jamal Abdullah won third place, with Belenggu Rindu, written and composed by Hael Husaini and Ezra Kong. They won RM35,000 and RM20,000, respectively.
Best Vocals award went to Ernie Zakri who received a RM12,000 cash prize and trophy.
Best Performance award went to Zizi Kirana who walked away with RM12,000 and a year’s supply of McDonald’s Malaysia vouchers.
