‘Black Widow’ Delayed AGAIN + All the Movies With Releases Pushed Back

today25 March 2021

Background

Productions are often delayed for various reasons and usually, production teams will anticipate these possibilities and allocate enough time before announcing the confirmed release dates for their projects. However, COVID-19 was one setback that no one anticipated and thus, we will not get to see a majority of the big-budget and heavily promoted films we’re waiting for for a little longer. Which films can we only expect to see as late as in 2022? Read on to find out.

A Quiet Place Part II

Director and writer John Krasinski announced the film’s delay on Instagram, explaining that his ultimate wish would be for the world to experience the movie together, so it’s been pulled from release. A Quiet Place Part II was set to roll out in the US on March 8, but will now premiere on May 28, 2021.

Although the film was meant to originally premiere on April 19, 2019, multiple delays have pushed the release date to April 2, 2021. Now, it’s been pushed AGAIN to May 28, 2021, Memorial Day weekend in the United States. The plot centres around Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto, now leading a quiet life with Letty and his son, little Brian.

When, three years ago, Disney broke the news that ‘La La Land’ star Emma Stone was set to play the evil fur-wearing, villain Cruella de Vil in a live-action prequel of the classic 1996 movie fans were divided. How would Stone embody the iconic villain? Well, Disney just released a new trailer of Stone in full costume gallivanting around in 1970s London. However, the movie itself is going to take a little longer to drop. Originally meant to premiere on December 23, 2020 we will now have to wait until May 28, 2021, for it to hit theatres and become available on Disney+ Premier Access.

Black Widow

The highly anticipated standalone movie for one of Marvel’s toughest fighters – starring Scarlet Johansson and co-starring Florence Pugh and David Harbour – will only drop on July 9 this year. Initially slated to drop in May 2020, ‘Black Widow’ was delayed a whole year (set for May this year) due to the pandemic but is now pushed back to allow for more people to see the movie in theatres at a (hopefully) safer time. Not only that, it has been announced that the movie will be available for streaming on Disney+’s Premier Access. There’s a lot riding on the release of ‘Black Widow’, with it being the first movie of Phase 4 and the first to follow the massive success of the MCU Disney+ shows ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’.

Pssttt… Did you hear how ‘Falcon’ actor Anthony Mackie wanted a Black Widow/Falcon love story?

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ which centres on a single mum and her two kids, who are inexplicably connected to the OG Ghostbusters, will debut on the 11th of November this year. Originally meant to be in theatres on the 11th of June, this 5-month delay will mean we will have to wait even longer to see the debut of Muncher the goopy blue ghost

Thor: Love and Thunder

The fourth instalment of the Thor franchise will reach the big screen on February 11, 2022, rather than November 5, 2021. In the meantime, stars from the upcoming movie have been dropping hints and revealing juicy new information from the upcoming movie. Natalie Portman (who played scientist Foster in the first two movies) has confirmed that the film will be based on the Mighty Thor storyline and will show Jane battling cancer. Have you seen her crazy transformation for the role??

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The second instalment of the Doctor Strange series has been pushed back from Nov. 5, 2021 to March 25, 2022. However, Marvel has just confirmed that we’ll also be seeing the enigmatic doctor in Spiderman 3. So, two for the price of waiting for one? We’ll take it.

Elvis

With Freddie Mercury, Elton John (and soon, even Madonna) immortalised in biopics depicting their life stories, it’s only fitting (if not overdue) that The King gets his own screentime. The biopic on Elvis Presley, however, has been pushed back from its slated release date of Oct. 1, 2021, and instead, will now premiere June 3, 2022.

Bob’s Burgers: The Movie

Fans rejoiced when what is regarded as one of the greatest animated series on the air was said to be moving to the big screen. However, it looks like fans of the Emmy award-winning series will have to wait longer for the movie. At Comic-Con, creator Loren Bouchard confirmed –

“Yeah, it’s absolutely coming out. I mean…it’ll come out. It’s gotta come out. We have to stop working on it at some point!”

At this time, ‘Bob’s Burger: The Movie’ is devoid of a release date.

 John Wick 4

Instead of following its May 21, 2021 release date, John Wick 4 is now slated for release on May 27, 2022.

Avatar 2

James Cameron has confirmed that filming is “100% complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95% complete on Avatar 3” but it will still be years til we see Avatar 2. The huge project started way back in 2017 (although James Cameron had started planning the sequel before the first movie was even released) with production focused on the motion capture segments for both ‘Avatar 2’ and ‘Avatar 3’. This then went on until 2019, when live-action filming commenced but was soon put to a halt because of the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, the crew had been filming in New Zealand but had to shut down production and remain in Los Angeles until given the green light to go back which wasn’t until June this year. James Cameron revealed new release dates for all four of the previously announced Avatar sequels: Avatar 2 has been pushed back to December 26, 2022, Avatar 3 to December 2024, Avatar 4 to December 2026, and Avatar 5 to December 2028.
