Remember the stories your parents would read to you before they tucked you into bed?
We do!
It’s always a special feeling when you see your favourite fairy tales adapted to the big screen – it’s even better when they are starring some of your favourite celebrities too!
Let’s go through the top 3 magical fairytale adaptations Hollywood has brought to the cinemas:
1. Ella Enchanted
Based on Carson Levine’s novel, ‘Ella Enchanted’ is a modern twist of ‘Cinderella’ featuring Anne Hathaway. Dreamy Hugh Dancy plays the handsome Prince Char for Charmont, but the wordplay on his name implies that he is, indeed, the famous ‘Prince Charming’ from the fairytale.
However, do note that there is a huge deviation from the source material! So if you like surprises, you’re going to enjoy this one.
2. The Wizard of Oz
This is an oldie but a goldie!
Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel, this musical adventure is a classic that covers everything from wicked witches, fairy godmothers, dark forests, and fantastical creatures.
This is the film that catapulted Judy Garland to stardom as Dorothy at the tender age of 17. Her voice saying, “There is no place like home!” will stay with you long after the filming credits roll.
3. Enchanted
How can we not include this musical fantasy that weaves in and out between an animated world into real life in the most magical way possible?!
In an animated fairytale kingdom, Giselle is set to marry Prince Edward. Fearing she will lose her throne, Narissa banishes Giselle into the real world where she meets (and falls for) Robert Philip.
Pip and Prince Edward follow her into the real world as a rescue mission, and these characters get tangled in a series of hilarious adventures as they come to realise that the world as they know it will never be the same.
