It’s a real battle!
After a close call, ‘Demon Slayer: Mugen Train’ managed to come out on top against ‘Mortal Kombat’ and is expected to end the weekend with an estimated US$6.4 million in ticket sales! Converted to Malaysian Ringgit, it puts the numbers at RM26.2 million. ‘Mortal Kombat’ follows close behind with an estimated US$6.2 million between Friday and Sunday.
Both these films debuted last weekend and came out strong, despite an estimated 70 per cent dip from their initial outings. But hey, considering we are currently battling a pandemic, it’s not so bad!
‘Demon Slayer: Mugen Train’ is currently playing in 1,915 North American venues and has earned a whopping US$34.1 million in the US as well as Canada. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki and written by Ufotable, this film raced right past ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly’ which made US$30 million to become the third-highest grossing anime title in North America.

That’s a whole lot of numbers.
Its competitor on the other hand, ‘Mortal Kombat’, is a martial arts-inspired adaptation of the popular video game and has amassed a total of US$34 million in just two weeks! Distributed by Warner Bros., this film is also released simultaneously on HBO Max, including ‘In The Heights’ and ‘The Suicide Squad’.
