No, it’s not a new episode…

After being teased for months (or even years) with rumours and anticipation, the Friends reunion that fans have been waiting for is finally becoming a reality. The cast will come together for a special film on HBO Max in honour of the iconic sitcom’s 25th anniversary.

This reunion did not happen without any problems as the entertainment industry has been on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. But at least now we know most of the details.

The film called “The One Where They Get Back Together” will commence streaming on HBO Max on Thursday, May 27th. The teaser has already dropped, and boy does it tease you!

The film will indeed feature all the stars of the original series, with Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler), and David Schwimmer (Ross) will reunite at the original Friends soundstage—Stage 24, at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank—to film. All six stars will also executive produce the film.

The Late Late Show writer Ben Winston will direct. He’s also an executive producer, alongside  Friends EPs Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane; and Emma Conway and James Longman.

Let us reiterate that this is NOT a new episode, as explained by HBO Max, “Lastly, in order to avoid any misunderstanding about what this special is, we want to make it very clear that this is not a new, original episode of the series. The cast will be appearing as themselves, not as their beloved characters.”

Filming was delayed here and there to the disappointment of the cast as much as the fans. “Unfortunately it’s very sad that we had to move it again,” Jennifer Aniston said. “It was, ‘How do we do this with live audiences?’ This is not a safe time. Period. That’s the bottom line. It’s not a safe time to do it.”

But we’re glad now that we have a date to look forward to. So, let your friends know that Friends is back!
