Festive holidays look a little different this year but don’t let that take away the meaning behind it. Connect with family and close friends, spread a little love and joy, and have a feast!
While you do that, let’s take a look at the best Raya ads throughout the times.
1. #LepasTu
This cute, cheeky Raya ad celebrates the love and bond between families on Hari Raya.
As per tradition, children will ‘salam’ their parents and ask for forgiveness on the morning of Eid. But this little boy named Din takes more time than most children as he confesses all of his hilarious misdeeds one after another.
This ad drives home the message,
“There are no unforgivable mistakes.”
2. ‘Oghang Pilah’
Years, decades, even centuries can go by and yet this ad will remain some of the funniest ones out there.
Malaysian artist Adibah Noor plays a taxi driver who picks up a man from the airport. The man speaks to her in a snobbish, over-exaggerated London accent despite only having “lived” there for 10 days. When the taxi screeches to a sudden halt, the startled man accidentally blurts his shock in Malay, his fake overseas accent forgotten. The taxi driver drops him off at his ‘kampung’, and we see the man heading inside his home.
No matter where we go, we always go back to where we came from.
3. Plastic Bowl
Be sure to have tissues for this one.
A married couple begrudgingly takes home the wife’s aged father for Raya. During his stay, the couple acts like he is a burden (unable to eat or drink without spilling, and accidentally soils himself during meals due to his age) and decides to place him at a separate table while they eat together as a family. The mistreatment continues until the children, thinking that this is the norm, tells the parents that they too will be placed at a different table when they get old.
This sends the wife back to her father and begs for forgiveness in tears. Who else is in tears? We are.
Appreciate your loved ones and show them how much you care. Time is fleeting. Selamat Hari Raya to all our Muslim brothers and sisters.
