After being heavily criticized for ‘modifying’ a cultural dish and belittling Indians, a content creator has taken to TikTok to apologize.
In the video causing the stir, she addresses her previous post, firmly clarifying that she did not say rasam was created by Malays.

“The recipe for rasam is from Malays. Did I say that? I just said Malay rasam recipe because I’m Malay.”
However, it was what she said afterward that ticked off the public.
“So right now you’re staying in Malaysia, don’t try to pick a fight. You’re just an outsider. Be polite, don’t make me angry.”
This made netizens, even those who aren’t Indians furious.
“You just got famous and you’re already showing your true colours. Even called them (Indians) outsiders.”
Baru femes sikit dah tunjuk belang. Siap cakap menumpang pulak tu.

“It’s already 2021 and still there’s the issue of other races aside from Malays being called ‘outsiders’ in Malaysia? Don’t you know Malaysia has various races? Even shouting while talking, I’m so angry.”

Since then, a video of her apologizing has also been shared on Twitter.

It is important for all of us to understand that when we live in a multicultural country, we must be open and accept all sorts of cultural beliefs. This goes hand in hand with respecting each other’s dishes as well. If we can do this, we can definitely achieve racial harmony.
