If you saw the first episode of Loki that premiered on Wednesday, chances are you are wondering about this strange D.B. Cooper man (if you’ve never heard of him before) and no, he is not a part of the Marvel estate — he is very real…despite no one knowing his identity. One thing for sure is that this happened and it happened on November 24, 1971, when a man calling himself Dan Cooper bought a one-way ticket to Seattle from Portland, Oregon. The FBI described him as,
“A quiet man who appeared to be in his mid-40s, wearing a business suit with a black tie and white shirt.”

While the flight was mid-air, he handed a note to a flight attendant and told her that he had a bomb. He even asked her to sit with him…before showing her the bomb. Anyway, she took the note to the plane’s captain that demanded four parachutes and $200,000 in twenty-dollar bills. The plane then landed in Seattle where Cooper let all the passengers free in exchange for the money and parachutes. The flight took off again towards Mexico City with some crew members still on board.
Now this is when things get weird.
Before the flight reached Reno, Nevada, around 8 p.m., Cooper jumped out of the plane with the parachute and the money, like he was James Bond. The plane landed safely in Reno but the same can’t be said with certainty about Cooper.
The FBI suggests that Cooper may have died before landing due to his parachute being unable to steer. It was also confirmed that a young boy found a package of twenty-dollar bills near Vancouver, Washington in 1980, that were the same bills given to Cooper.
This case is so fascinating that a documentary titled The Mystery of D.B. Cooper was picked up by HBO.
