With a recent spike in COVID cases, The Ministry Of Health (MOH) has proposed that the lifting for interstate travel be postponed. This is due to multiple complaints within the government quarters to postpone the lifting of the travel ban.

Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has also not ruled out the possibility of closing down Ramadhan bazaars if the sites are hit by Covid-19 infections. This warning came out after Malaysia was hit with an alarming number of cases over the past few days. A Twitter user expressed his dismay with Ramadhan bazaars this year observing the current situation:
I used to get excited when I see the bazaar tents popping up before Ramadan.
Today all I feel is worry and dread. pic.twitter.com/Ix5TL8TZwD

This situation also came as a warning to everyone that we could be hit with the fourth wave of COVID infections if we let our guard down for a moment. This, especially after photos and videos of non-compliance to SOPs in Ramadhan bazaars were shared.
Illegal entrance to Bazar Ramadhan Bayan Baru.. Ni la die orang yang pentingkan diri. Ikut jalan belakang! Social distancing pun tak ada. Ikut SOP la bodoh! Entrance utama penuh. Beratur panjang. Sebab nak kena amik suhu dan scan QR bar. Sebab ikut SOP. @malaysiakini pic.twitter.com/ZzeeSaziMa

The photo above seems to show the entrance to a bazaar in Bayan Lepas, Penang, causing the issue of social distancing to come into question. National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin expressed worry over the possible spike. In light of the gravity of the news, netizens have been flooding social media with well wishes, urging each other to remain strong during these tough times! Malaysians are willing to forego celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri in their hometowns to keep Covid-19 at bay.
Be strong for those yang tak dapat balik kampung for 2 years in a row?

Another Twitter user thought realistically about the whole interstate travel issue, indicating that disallowing it would be for the best:
Allowing people to ‘balik kampung’ might create another wave that could prolong the state of Emergency.
Think about it. https://t.co/I2WPvCSZ7q

Let us continue to do our parts in curbing the spread of COVID-19 by staying home as much as possible, avoiding the 3C’s (crowded places, confined spaces and closed conversations) and keeping our spirits high! We can stop this if we work together!
