“It’s My Right To Say No”; Medical Student Barred From Exam After Rejecting COVID Vaccine

today15 June 2021

Background

A Malaysian medical student has taken to social media to voice out her frustration after she was barred from taking her exam.

This after she rejected the COVID-19 vaccine. The video was first shared on Facebook and then forwarded on Twitter by @harithilmi.

“It’s my right to say no to the vaccine.”

She continued to say, “Just because I said no, why would you stop me from taking the exam? I studied so hard for it.”

The 1-minute 22-second video that has over 150,000 views on Twitter at the time of writing shows her venting her frustration and hoping the Malaysian government will help her out with the issue.

Netizens had mixed reactions following the issue.

While some agreed that she should be allowed to take the exam but in a different place, others addressed that it’s a clinical examination involving others. With the asymptomatic cases at large, it would be of great risk to carry out the examination for someone who has not been vaccinated.

Media personnel Aysha Ridzuan also threw questions about the issue.

She continued in her thread.

Others felt that she may be selfish to reject the vaccine.

“I don’t like people who demand many things with the excuse “it’s my right”. Your inner Karen is showing.”

‘Karen’ according to Dictionary.com is a pejorative slang term for an obnoxious, angry, entitled, and often racist middle-aged white woman who uses her privilege to get her way or police other people’s behaviors.

The user above continued to address that it’s more of a public right than her own.

Is it right for one to reject the COVID-19 vaccine over personal rights?
