Social media is the platform for you to watch or share (almost) anything. Many have taken to using it for educational purposes or activism, especially those with followings. Unfortunately, sometimes, it’s easy to forget that not everything needs to be recorded to go on social media. Recently, we’ve seen a wave of news showing individuals who take to social media to – openly? unintentionally? – show themselves breaking the law.
This was the case when the Malaysia Animal Association shared a video showing a local influencer playing with his cat while driving. The intention behind the video was to share the affection between a fur parent and their fur baby. They also took the time to share an important PSA: neuter/spay your pets to lessen the number of homeless, lonely animals.
However, the message was lost on netizens, as they were quick to point out one fact. Yes, it was lovely to see the fur parent being sweet with their pet but: he was doing it while driving. Not one was he not wearing a seatbelt, but, he seemed to barely have his eyes on the road. Upon closer inspection, it’s clear that the influencer was going around an apartment or flat. While this could be seen as a controlled environment (i.e. no cars around), there’s also the likelihood of a child running across the road.
Most netizens pointed out the importance of road safety above all.
This user highlighted the dangers, saying that there’s a possibility of hitting someone else’s car bumper and troubling them.
“Other people have cats too, but at home. What if you hit people’s front number and trouble them.”
Road safety should always be a priority. Keep you and your pets safe if you’re on the road. Most important always, ALWAYS wear a seat belt. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
