TW: This article discusses harassment
Necessary or excessive?
Student activist Ain has taken to Twitter to address a case of harassment on the video-sharing platform TikTok. Ain, well known for her movement #MakeSchoolASaferPlace addresses the issue in her tweet.
Um…. way too many videos landing on my fyp of non-muslims getting harassed by people…wth… this is just one of the comments section… this is what happens when rampant mygsogny and sexism runs under the guise of religious reason.. we can do better :’) pic.twitter.com/tgL5t44oLN

In the tweet, she addresses the impact of misogyny and sexism, especially that which is disguised as religious concern. The screenshots from the comment section show locals addressing a content creator, telling her to respect Muslims.

The comments from the top reads:
- “Seriously, with time she seems to be ‘showing’ more.”
- “Isn’t she embarrassed doing that in public?”
- “Aren’t you disappointed?”
- “God is watching you.”
Here’s a comment that had others confused:

“I know she’s not Islam, but can you respect it girl? Muslim men will be attracted.”
Another viewer countered her statement saying, “but she’s a non-Muslim so it’s up to her. Why should she prioritize men? It should be men lowering their gaze.” Ain has addressed her concern in the thread.
its clear to see a lot of our people dont treat girls with respect and treat them like object. first my muslim sisters now even my non-muslim sisters have to be subjected to such harassment. its clear theres an issue we need to address in our society

Netizens who saw the photos also shared their 2 cents.
so entitled lol.. there’s no such thing as “even if you’re not a muslim, cover up”, regardless of religion, it’s your job as a muslim to avert your gaze if you see something you shouldn’t be looking at. and you can’t expect people to respect you if you don’t respect others. https://t.co/dVj0iumJEm

They always went with, “women need to cover themselves from the eyes of men”
But rarely remember of, “men need to lower their gaze from women” https://t.co/15eLedSzjI

Ngl these type of people lah yg terpaling muslim. I mean Islam is a beautiful religion but some of the people who practice are the bad representation. They really love to preach others who are might be ‘less’ than them. They are too obsessed with the idea of menegur but- https://t.co/dJ4vHolW1A
