Papa, don’t preach?
University and college days are known to be some of the best years of our lives. Living on our own for the first time, it is our first taste of freedom and learning to be independent as we navigate adulthood. But it can also be a difficult time as well — some are forced to juggle their studies while striving to make ends meet by taking up a part-time job (some take up two or three), and perhaps some are adjusting to being away from their families and suffer homesickness.
Regardless, each student has their own daily schedule and some might look a lot different than others — which leads us to this issue. Netizens on Twitter recently banded together against a man deemed as “judgemental” for scolding a total stranger (who is allegedly a student) for posting a photo of a salad bowl, which the user craved after waking up from a 5-hour nap.

Upon seeing the tweet, the man felt that it was up to him to say a thing or two regarding the matter.
(“Don’t students have anything more productive to do? Sleeping in from noon till evening. How are you going to be somebody’s mother someday?”)
Another user fired back, asking:
“Don’t you have anything more productive to do than judge people?”
Another user advised the man to mind his own business and that he was “being toxic in the community.”
In defence of the student in question, a separate Twitter user said:
“Take your bitterness elsewhere. Different students have different ways of studying. Most of us burn the midnight oil to work, to study, etc.. You can’t compare it with your perfect life.”
At the end of the day, perhaps it’s good to remind ourselves that everyone has their own lives to live and as long as they are not causing harm to others — or themselves for that matter — it’s best to leave them to it. We need to be more empathetic towards one another and create a safe space for everyone to live in a harmonious society.
