For ages, many people who have passed this highway had the misfortune of carrying a supernatural tale home with them — that is, if they made it out alive at all.
One of the most notorious haunted places in Malaysia, this highway connects Genting Highlands with Cameron Highlands, two of the most famous tourist destinations, and has seen way too many accidents. The most famous story surrounding this sinister highway is of a yellow Volkswagen that will continuously appear in front of you, no matter how many times you overtake it.
Oh, and by the way, it doesn’t have a driver.
Another one that is constantly in the back of every frightened Malaysian’s mind is the story of an unfortunate young couple and their baby who were travelling down the highway. Their car broke down, prompting the husband to leave his family waiting alone to call for help.
He never came back.
Finally, a police patrol car found the wife and baby and walked towards their stalled vehicle. They told her to step out of the vehicle *very quietly* and *not to look around* as she did so. Collecting her baby, the wife walked with the policemen. Once she was a safe distance away, she turned around to look at her car and what do you know!
She saw her husband’s head lying on top of the car, being feasted upon by a banshee.
If you haven’t run off for the hills already, here’s another story of a schoolboy who is seen wandering around asking, “Have you seen my mother?” over and over again. If you’re not his mother, then read on.
Legend has it that there was once an accident where a woman, who was driving, was flung out of the car on impact while her son remained in the passenger’s seat. His eyes were pierced by shards of glass and till this day, he wanders in search of his Mom.
Here’s a last one before you take off.
One night, a local radio station received a call where a man told the tragic story of himself and his family. He said he was driving on the highway and got into an awful accident where his car tumbled down a ravine. He detailed his memories of watching his family members die, and he said the saddest thing was seeing himself die.
Immediately, the line went dead. The deejay and listeners thought it was a prank call, until the newspapers reported the next day that there was an accident at the same place the man had mentioned. The victims of the accident were a couple, their parents, and children, just like the man said. The deejay tried to listen again to the recording of that call, but there was nothing but silence.
Thinking of driving down Karak Highway in the near future? Have a safe trip!
