What’s going on here?
The journey to becoming a singer is no easy road. Whether you choose to build your image yourself or join singing competitions. But when you join singing competitions, your faith is ultimately decided by the judges in the show.
And *that* was the issue brought up by the Twitter community when they saw the lineup of judges for this local singing competition.
Apa kelayakan diorang as a singing jury pic.twitter.com/8DNlYotopL

“What is their qualification as a singing jury?”
That was the question Twitter user @MHaffizJ asked quoting a screenshot of posting from the show “All Together Now Malaysia”. The line of juries showed as many as 50 figures from (what seems to be) different backgrounds in the arts industry.
He continues to question the selection in the thread.
I KNOW this is a singing competition because my friend went to this astro competition to compete in singing.
How can no one in the production see the jury lineup and question their qualification lol

Langgar SOP tu aku tak nak sentuh bcs ada kata ni pre-recorded before lockdown or what not.
Tapi dari quality of our entertainment industry, this is a huge question mark. Sampai bila nak pakai cable, popularity and muka lawa je nak maju kt industri ni?

“Breaching SOP isn’t the question here because some said this was pre-recorded before lockdown or whatnot. But from a quality of our entertainment industry (point of view), this is a huge question mark. To what extent will we only use cable, popularity, and pretty faces to progress in the industry?”
From the photo, netizens also questioned the presence of certain figures that may not have anything to do with singing.
“Why is Azfar there? Can he sing?”
Knapa azfar apa benda tu Ada skali? Dia boleh nyanyi ke??? ?? https://t.co/yOTCf6s3Gs

The user was referring to the local YouTuber Azfar Heri. A 23-year-old Malaysian whose presence on the show was questioned as he didn’t have a music background but managed to be a part of the judging panel for a singing competition.
“If those who can’t even sing are becoming judges so you might as well end shows like this. No wonder we have songs like “Budak Girl” being released if the blue-haired individual can also become a singing judge.”
Yg nyanyi kelaut pon jadi juri baik tutup je rancangan mcm nie, patut la kluar lagu budak girl klau yg rambut biru tu pon boleh jadi juri nyanyi https://t.co/2ZuOtkfu4c

Aku Budak Girl is a song that went viral recently for all the wrong reasons, pulling in 2 million views in just 7 days.

This user expressed their disappointment with the music industry.
Sebab tula industry music kita ke laut disebabkan juri bukan from music industry i mean most of them adalah influencer and some are pelakon la ni la tu la. Get me? https://t.co/nSuPZM6CDv

“This is why our music industry is done for, because the judges aren’t from the music industry. I mean most of them are influencers and actors. Get me?”
However, one netizen decided to DM a jury asking for clarification.
Moga terjawab, i dm one of the jury. Jadlobo is backup vocal artist pic.twitter.com/9OKY1IWI4e

They explained that the show is copyrighted from the UK television series and judging is not totally focused on just the singing aspect, and that is why they called figures from different backgrounds.
Is this the right move for our music industry?
